Daily Viagra vs. Daily Cialis

It may be safe to take Viagra every day if your doctor believes it is appropriate for daily use for you. However, daily Viagra may not be the best option for you. Consider the difference between daily Viagra and daily Cialis.

Daily Viagra

Viagra (sildenafil) usually starts to work in about 1 hour and is effective in your system for 6-8 hours. This narrow “effectiveness window” means you need to time for your medication to sync up your sex life—which doesn’t always work. And if you miss that window, you can’t take more Viagra for another 24 hours. (You should never take more than one dose of Viagra per day).

If you want more flexibility, consider using daily Cialis, which is effective for up to 24-36 hours.

Daily Cialis

So-called “daily” Cialis comes in two different dose sizes—2.5 mg and 5 mg. This lower dose increases spontaneity since Cialis is effective for 24–36 hours. If your doctor determines that it’s appropriate for you, daily Cialis can be a win-win. But the choice between daily Cialis and daily doses of Viagra really depends on how you and your partner plan to use ED medication.

Is Daily ED Medication Right for You?

Couples who crave spontaneity in their sex could prefer the flexibility of daily Cialis. Other couples might like the “use as needed” nature of Viagra.

Cialis and Viagra are not safe for everyone, and you should consider the risks and benefits of each drug. For example, people on drugs called “nitrates” for certain heart conditions and riociguat for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension cannot take Viagra, and Cialis may not be safe for people who take medications to lower their blood pressure or to treat an enlarged prostate, or who consume substantial amounts of alcohol.
