Measure along the top, from tip to pubic bone
Don't measure the underside of your penis (it's just not accurate)

How to measure your penis
Guys can get…creative when it comes to measuring their penis. It’s tempting to cheat results and add an extra inch, but there is a right way to measure your penis. And odds are, you’re probably not measuring your penis the way medical researchers measure. Here’s how to correctly measure your penis:
- Start on the top side of your penis at the tip of the head
- Measure in a straight line along the top of the penis back to the pubic bone
- Push past any excess fat or pubic hair and stop measuring at the pubic bone
- Ta-da — that’s your actual penis length
The right way to measure your penis
According to a 2015 study of over 15,000 men, the average erect penis is 5.16 inches long with a circumference (aka “girth”) of 4.59 inches. And researchers got those numbers by measuring each penis from the upper side of the head of the penis back to the pubic area. They always measure the top of the penis—not the underside of the penis back to the testicles.
The only accurate way to measure your penis is the top—from the tip of the head to the pubic bone
Measuring the top of the penis is a shorter distance than the underside of the penis because it has a clear stopping point—the pubic bone. When you measure the underside of the penis you can skew results by measuring into the pudendal are (aka “the taint”). But on the plus side, most researchers push measurements into the pubic area as far as they can go—regardless of any hair or belly fat. So your weight and grooming habits won’t alter the accurate measurement of your penis.
How to measure the girth of your penis
You can also measure your penis girth by wrapping a flexible tape measure around the middle of the shaft of the penis. Any part of the shaft will do, so feel free to find the widest point. The average flaccid penis girth is 3.66 inches and 4.59 when erect.
